Library Arcade

Library Arcade is the leading game-based curriculum for library and information skills instruction. The Library Arcade curriculum exist right at the intersection of graphic novels, videogames and information literacy. It is designed to engage and develop young learners from kindergarten to sixth grade. The curriculum features graphic novel style lessons and arcade style learning activities. Every graphic novel style lesson uses paneled illustrations, dialogue balloons and engaging storylines to explain library skills. Each arcade style learning activity provides a fun, challenging and engaging environment to practice library and information skills.

The Library Arcade Curriculum is an innovative and effective way to deliver library instruction in real-world school libraries. The curriculum covers 24 domains of library and information skills across 4 grade bands (K4-K5, 1-2, 3-4 and 5-6). Each Library Arcade lesson has 3 parts. First, the library educator facilitates a whole-group overview of a library skills. Library educators can use the Library Arcade scripted overviews or incorporate their own. Second, students read a graphic novel style story that overviews the library skill. Every graphic novel style lesson uses paneled illustrations, dialogue balloons and engaging storylines to explain library skills. Third, students complete an arcade style learning game that highlights the skill. Each arcade style learning activity provides a fun, challenging and engaging environment to practice library and information skills.

Library Vs. Ban-Its is the story of an epic battle between library volunteers and an anti-info group (called Ban-Its). As a main character of the story, readers must stop the Ban-Its’ physical and intellectual assault on library resources.
